Wood Buffalo Housing & Development Corporation identified the homeless crisis in our community and opened Marshall House as an emergency shelter in September 2006. The Shelter assists those in our community struggling with homelessness. Many issues culminate in homelessness, such as a lack of affordable housing, addictions, mental health issues and incomes below the poverty line. Marshall House provides a variety of services in addition to shelter to assist individuals in obtaining permanent housing – a ‘hand up’ instead of a ‘hand out’.
Marshall House is currently funded for 100 individuals. Providing the basic needs of living – shelter and food, clients are able to focus on other aspects affecting their well-being and break the cycle of homelessness.
