The average household income in Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is about twice as high as other incomes throughout Alberta but not every household in Wood Buffalo is average.
Some households are supported by only one working adult. Others are made up of people who work in the service industry or other fields that pay wages below Wood Buffalo’s sky-high average income.
We know that even an economy as supercharged as ours can’t manage without the vital workers who keep our city functioning day-to-day. These workers are key players in the comfort and peace of mind of everyone in the region. Our community needs them.
Also, as in every community, there’s a portion of Wood Buffalo’s population who are unable to maintain steady income due to illness or disability. Regardless, we believe all citizens need access to safe, appropriate housing - one of the most fundamental needs for all individuals.
We’re proud to act as a Management Body for Alberta Housing and Urban Affairs, a government department that provides subsidized housing opportunities for qualifying families and individuals in our community. Through subsidized housing, your rental rate is based solely on your income. That means a set percentage of your wages is earmarked for rent. Thanks to a boost from rental subsidies, our clients pay what they can afford without having to turn over the better part of their pay cheque to a landlord.
Subsidized (Community) housing can be found throughout the city and in some rural areas. One, two, three, four, and five bedroom homes are available for rent in apartments, townhouses and duplexes.
Our housing developments work to fulfill our mission to continually strive to provide affordable housing alternatives to citizens within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. We help community members find homes to suit their budgets by managing fixed, affordable rental rates on behalf of government housing programs, or through subsidized housing opportunities.
